Job Summary
Athletic Coach responsibilities include instructing and coaching students in the sport indicated, assisting in arranging playing schedules, performing coaching duties, attending required meetings/trainings per OAL, and ensuring safety and adherence to athletics policies. The role emphasizes coaching theory and techniques, knowledge of CIF and school policies, safety and injury prevention, and strong communication with parents/guardians and staff. Preference given to current certificated employees with a valid CA teaching credential; certifications in CPR/First Aid or equivalent, injury-care trainings, and sports-injury credentials are required. Applicants should demonstrate knowledge of high school coaching rules, adolescent psychology in sports, and the ability to foster teamwork, discipline, and academic encouragement within the athletic program.
Required Qualifications
- Valid CPR card
- Valid First Aid card or college-level course in care/prevention of athletic injuries OR EMT I/II card OR Sports Injury Certificate
- Sudden Cardiac Arrest
- Concussion
- Heat illness prevention
- Fundamentals of coaching training (high school) OR Coaching Essentials training (middle school)
- COVID Safety
- Knowledge of coaching theory and techniques in the sport
- Knowledge of rules and regulations of high school athletics
- Knowledge of adolescent psychology
- Knowledge of school policies and CIF policies related to athletics
- Ability to communicate with parents/guardians and appropriate school staff regarding problems or emergencies
