Job Summary
Oversee or assist the Head Coach in delivering sports coaching to K-12 secondary students by instructing fundamentals, supervising practices, and managing equipment issuance. Coordinate try-outs, monitor athlete participation, and guide students on appropriate sport levels while ensuring safety and injury prevention. Maintain registration records, set team policies, and collaborate with partners to monitor healthy lifestyle impacts. Requires regular travel for off-site competitions, frequent outdoor physical effort, and minimal supervision. Reports to the School Site Athletic Director.
Required Qualifications
- Certified employee serving in a teaching or administrative position
- Certified paraprofessional
- Evidence of completion of the required lay coach courses (GHSA Principles for Coaching and NCSS PREPARE/First Aid)
- Completion of the GHSA Head Coaching Class
- Ability to manage projects and duties with minimal supervision
- Ability to effectively manage time and priorities
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Analytical mindset
- Emphasis on safety precautions
- Awareness of best training procedures and injury preventative actions
- Ability to manage multiple functions of supervision (athletes, equipment, and staff)
- High-level accountability for effective operation and results
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to work with internal and external personnel
- Responsibility to discuss issues of moderate importance
- Regular, frequent contact with internal and external personnel
- Decision-making responsibility to discuss issues of moderate importance
- Physical effort 70% of the time or more outdoors
- Moderate lifting capability
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in coaching or playing the sport
- Experience with inventory of equipment and scheduling
