Job Summary
Athletic Coach for Boys Cross Country (McClymonds) needed for Fall 2026. Instruct and coach students in cross country, help arrange practice and competition schedules, perform coaching duties, and attend required trainings. Must demonstrate knowledge of high school coaching standards, safety protocols, and CIF policies; show ability to communicate with parents and school staff, foster teamwork and student-athlete development, and uphold ethical sportsmanship. Preference given to current Oakland Unified School District certificated employees with a valid California teaching credential. Requires CPR/First Aid or equivalent training, EMT or Sports Injury Certificate, concussion and sudden cardiac arrest knowledge, and coaching fundamentals training.
Required Qualifications
- Injury prevention/treatment: Valid, current CPR card AND Valid, current First Aid card OR proof of college-level course in care/prevention of athletic injuries OR EMT I or II card OR valid Sports Injury Certificate
- Sudden Cardiac Arrest knowledge
- Concussion knowledge
- Heat illness prevention knowledge
- Fundamentals of coaching training (high school) OR Coaching Essentials training (middle school)
- COVID Safety training
- Evidence of knowledge of coaching theory and techniques in the sport
- Knowledge of rules and regulations of the sport at the high school level
- Knowledge of adolescent psychology as it relates to sports participation
- Ability to maintain high standards of safety in coaching practices and contests
- Ethical standards related to sportsmanship and relationships with students
- Communication with parents/guardians and school staff regarding problems or emergencies
- Knowledge of CIF policies related to athletics
- Ability to instill teamwork, commitment and discipline and support from parents and community
- Previous successful coaching experience at the high school level
