Job Summary
Athletic Coach for Boys Cross Country at Castlemont (Fall, 2026). Instruct and coach students in the sport, help arrange playing schedules, perform/assist in coaching responsibilities, and attend required meetings/trainings as specified by OAL. Preference for current certificated Oakland Unified School District employees with a valid CA teaching credential. Certifications in CPR, First Aid, and/ or related athletic-injury care are required or detailed as acceptable alternatives. Must demonstrate knowledge of coaching theory, rules and regulations at the high school level, adolescent psychology related to sports participation, safety standards, ethical conduct, and effective communication with parents/guardians and school staff. Ability to instill teamwork, commitment, and discipline while supporting students academically and representing the district’s athletic program. Previous successful coaching experience at the high school level will be weighted more heavily.
Required Qualifications
- Valid, current CPR card
- Valid, current First Aid card OR college-level course in care/prevention of athletic injuries OR EMT I or II card OR Sports Injury Certificate
- Fundamentals of coaching training (high school) OR Coaching Essentials training (middle school)
- Knowledge of rules and regulations of high school athletics (CIF)
- Knowledge of adolescent psychology related to sports participation
- Evidence of coaching theory/techniques (courses, prior coaching, or in-service training)
- Ability to maintain safety in practices and contests
- Strong communication with parents/guardians and school staff
- Knowledge of OAL trainings and district athletic program standards
