Job Summary
At-Sea Survey Technician/EM Reviewer at A.I.S., Inc. supports NOAA SEFSC PEMD’s Gulf and Caribbean Reef Fish Branch. The role involves serving as a survey technician on NOAA ships and small research vessels, conducting pre- and post-survey equipment inventory, collecting biological and environmental samples, learning and using VIAME for video data annotation, performing data entry and QA/QC into Oracle databases, updating annotation tracking sheets and GitHub project tools, learning AI/ML software for post-processing, and participating in public outreach activities. Requires a BS in Marine Science or related field, computer literacy, species identification knowledge, NOAA health/safety forms and tetanus vaccination, and willingness to travel domestically for at-sea surveys; location is Pascagoula, Mississippi with in-person work expectations.
Required Qualifications
- BS Degree in Marine Science or a related field of study (volunteer experience valued)
- Computer literate; proficient with word processing, database, statistical, and graphics programs; able to write reports at the college level
- Proficient with fish, invertebrate, and protected species identification keys; knowledge of reef taxa from the Gulf of America
- Knowledge of endangered or threatened species
- Sea going contractors must submit NOAA Health Services Questionnaire (NOAA Form 57-10-01) and Tuberculosis Screening Form (NOAA Form NF 57-10-02) annually/biennially; must have current tetanus vaccine
- Domestic travel required for at-sea surveys aboard NOAA Research Vessels.
