Job Summary
Greet and assist customers, operate cash registers and scanners, and perform stocking and cashiering functions to maximize profitability. Open and close the store a minimum of two days per week while assisting the Store Manager with employee scheduling, training, and safety meetings. Manage merchandise by receiving, unpacking, stocking, and rotating items according to planograms, and maintain accurate inventory levels through damage control and markdowns. Ensure financial integrity by controlling cash, authorizing refunds and overrides, counting register tills, and driving to the bank for deposits. Assist in store management during the Store Manager's absence.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to drive own vehicle to the bank to deposit money
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages
- Ability to perform cash register functions and generate reports
- Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices
- Knowledge of cash handling procedures including cashier accountability and deposit control
- Frequent and proper lifting of up to 40 pounds
- Occasional lifting of up to 55 pounds
- Occasional climbing (using step ladder) up to heights of six feet
- Occasional or regular driving/providing own transportation to make bank deposits, attend management meetings and travel to other Dollar General stores
Desired Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One year of experience in a retail environment
- Six months supervisory experience
