Job Summary
The Assistant Store Manager at Dollar General supports store leadership in delivering a customer-first experience, supervises staff, assists with scheduling and training, and helps manage merchandising, inventory control, and financial integrity (cash handling, deposits, and reports). Responsibilities include opening/closing the store at least two days per week, ensuring planograms and displays meet standards, maintaining accurate inventory, enforcing store policies, and acting in the Store Manager's absence. Key skills include customer service leadership, cash handling, supervisory capabilities, problem-solving, organization, and effective communication. The role involves frequent shopping-floor activity, handling of merchandise and equipment, and potential travel to other stores as needed. High school diploma or equivalent is strongly preferred, with one year of retail experience and six months supervisory experience preferred.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred
- One year of experience in a retail environment
- Six months supervisory experience preferred
- Effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
- Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations
- Good organization skills with attention to detail
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages
- Ability to perform cash register functions and generate reports
- Knowledge of cash handling procedures including cashier accountability and deposit control
- Ability to drive own vehicle to the bank to deposit money
