Job Summary
Assistant Store Manager at Dollar General in Cowen, WV collaborates with the Store Manager to supervise store employees, manage merchandise and displays, and ensure cash handling, deposits, and financial integrity. Responsibilities include opening/closing the store at least two days per week, assisting with employee scheduling and training, maintaining accurate inventory, implementing planograms, authorizing refunds and overrides, counting tills, and depositing money at the bank. The role supports store operations in the Store Manager’s absence. Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent (strongly preferred), plus retail experience and supervisory experience, with effective communication, problem-solving, and cash handling abilities.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred
- One year of experience in a retail environment
- Six months supervisory experience preferred
- Effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and operating and maintenance instructions
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations and cash handling procedures
- Ability to drive own vehicle to the bank to deposit money
- Frequent lifting up to 55 pounds and other physical requirements
- Ability to open and close the store multiple days per week
- Knowledge of planograms and merchandise presentation
- Cashier accountability and deposit control
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to supervise and assist in absence of Store Manager
- Customer service leadership
