Job Summary
Assistant Store Manager at Dollar General leads customer service, supervises store employees, assists with scheduling, training, merchandising, inventory control, cash handling, deposits, and store operations under the Store Manager. Responsibilities include greeting customers, operating the cash register, opening/closing the store, ensuring planograms and merchandising standards, maintaining accurate inventory, safeguarding assets, authorizing refunds/overrides, and supporting management in the absence of the Store Manager. Requires strong communication, problem-solving, organizational skills, and the ability to perform cash handling and basic financial controls.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred
- One year of experience in a retail environment and six months supervisory experience preferred
- Ability to drive own vehicle to the bank to deposit money
- Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages
- Knowledge of cash handling procedures including cashier accountability and deposit control
- Frequent standing, walking, and lifting of up to 40 pounds (55 pounds occasional)
