Job Summary
Lead the food service department by actively participating in crew training, mentoring staff, and administering discipline while conducting daily team huddles to communicate sales goals and reinforce guest service expectations. Prepare delicatessen products for sale including fresh salads, charcuterie, and roasted chicken, while managing inventory through order placement, stocking dry storage and coolers, and maintaining accurate records for damaged merchandise. Ensure all displays are properly stocked and sanitized in compliance with food safety regulations, rotating merchandise to meet freshness guarantees. Coordinate POS maintenance, validate transactions, and cultivate a collaborative work environment. This role requires weekend and holiday shifts at a leading retailer with over 2,200 stores, offering opportunities to bring people together around the joys of food.
Required Qualifications
- Department operations experience or equivalent education to be knowledgeable of the nature of every position within the department
- Ability to learn basic knowledge of all products carried in the department including willingness to taste and evaluate delicatessen products
- Ability to follow instructions and procedures for proper handling of knives and other food service equipment
- Strong work ethic with ability to follow instructions and procedures applying effective time management skills
- Math skills necessary, but not limited to: the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, follow recipes, completing sales transactions and calculating discounts
- Ability to use Microsoft Office suite
- Excellent communicator with ability to professionally and courteously interact with guests, crew members, store management team, corporate sales managers and leadership. This includes answering telephone calls and using in-store intercom system
- Ability to work with cleaning chemicals and detergents in order to clean and sanitize tools using without allergic reaction
- Ability to work around food ingredients, produce and spices without allergic reaction
- Must be at least 18 years of age due to equipment use and work environment
- Current State Food Handler's Permit must be maintained
- Store is open seven days a week and may require weekend, holiday and shift work
- Will be required to join a labor union
