Job Summary
Define technical strategy for the Player Platform area alongside senior leadership, translating it into actionable objectives and key results with Lead Engineers. Guide architecture and evolution of complex systems across payments, subscriptions, accounts, identity, web, and launcher, balancing scalability, maintainability, and resilience against business needs. Own engineering principles and standards, coaching and mentoring Lead Engineers to raise team capability while managing outsourced partners to internal quality bars. Translate product and business vision into technical options, explaining trade-offs and risks to diverse audiences. Manage technology through its full lifecycle, from evaluation and procurement to modernization and decommissioning, with budget accountability for SaaS platforms and outsourced capacity.
Required Qualifications
- Significant experience leading multiple engineering teams to deliver and operate complex, business critical software systems
- Accountability for priorities, dependencies, risks, resources, budgets and delivery outcomes
- Experience in enterprise or large scale platform environments
- Proven experience managing and developing senior technical leaders
- Accountability for performance, succession, workforce planning and raising engineering capability across teams
- A strong track record of defining technical strategy
- Establishing and evolving engineering standards
- Turning strategic direction into clear, measurable technical objectives
- Demonstrable experience guiding the architecture and evolution of complex systems
- Experience with modern technology alongside long established or legacy platforms
- Experience owning technology through evaluation, procurement, modernisation and decommissioning
- Expert technical knowledge within a relevant engineering domain
- Recent proximity to hands on engineering
- Strong working knowledge of a stack including Java and Spring Boot
- Strong working knowledge of TypeScript and React
- Strong working knowledge of AWS with EKS and Kubernetes
- Strong working knowledge of Terraform
- Strong working knowledge of event driven systems and microservices
- Proven ability to work with product, business and technology leaders
- Experience communicating technical options, trade offs and risks clearly to technical and non technical audiences
- Experience managing external engineering partners or suppliers
- Ideally based (or willing to relocate) within a comfortable commuting distance of our office to attend onsite as required
