Job Summary
Prepare, implement, and evaluate daily classroom activities while ensuring children are taught and supervised consistently. Take primary lead for half the children, track goal development, and manage personal hygiene tasks including diapering, feeding, and toileting. Facilitate family-style meals and maintain cleanliness through assigned janitorial duties. Monitor children during transportation, manage bus safety, and assist with evacuations. Provide input for parent conferences and track child goals. Maintain positive communication with parents and attend Family Nights. Fulfill role as mandated reporter and participate in staff meetings.
Required Qualifications
- High school education or equivalent
- Current enrollment in the Child Care Division's Central Background Registry
- Current physical examination
- Drug screen documentation
- TB screen documentation
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to drive a private or Agency vehicle
- Plan to fulfill position requirements regarding transportation (private vehicle or agency vehicle)
- DMV Record check clearance
- Fluent in English both verbally and written
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff, families, children, and the public using the telephone and in face-to-face, one-to-one, and in group settings
- Current First Aid, CPR, and Food Handler's card
- Head Start experience
- Community service experience
- Multi-cultural experience
- One year of experience working in an early childhood education setting with children in the same age group as the assigned classroom
- Desire to work with low-income children and their families
- Ability to lift children up to 50 pounds from the floor to waist high ten to fifteen times a day
- Ability to frequently crouch to a child's height and maintain eye contact at a child's level
- Ability to stand tall enough to reach children on play equipment
- Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time
- Ability to walk up and down stairs
- Ability to walk or run quickly
- Ability to walk over rough or uneven ground
- Ability to frequently bend and kneel
- Ability to maintain the safety of the environment and children through visual, auditory and smelling senses
- Ability to set up a classroom which requires moving of tables, chairs, shelves etc.
- Ability to kneel or sit on the floor or in child sized furniture
- Ability to make precise arm-hand positioning movements and maintain static arm-hand positions
- Ability to make skillful, controlled manipulations of small objects
- Ability to perform regular sanitation of classroom and equipment which may require the use of broom, carpet sweeper, and mop
- Ability to apply safe practices in the performance of duties
- Ability to report unsafe or hazardous working conditions and/or any injury immediately
- Ability to comply with Agency safety standards
- Ability to participate in emergency drills
- Ability to promote a culture of safe environments in the workplace
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in regards to staff and family information
- Ability to maintain objectives and professional standards
- Ability to improve self-skills and education
- Ability to fulfill role as mandated reporter as stated in Child Abuse and Neglect Policy

- Ability to maintain positive communication with parents
- Ability to provide input to teacher for Parent/Staff Conferences, Comprehensive Staffing and Monthly Individual Child Goal Tracking
- Ability to utilize the teacher, other staff, and resource library for technical assistance
- Ability to maintain congenial and respectful relations with staff, children, families, and community
- Ability to keep current and accurate records and file reports on time
- Ability to demonstrate familiarity with employment policies, performance standards, workplan and objectives of Agency
- Ability to participate in staff meetings, conferences, training sessions and workshops as assigned
- Child Development Associate (CDA) credential
- State-awarded ORO certificate for preschool teachers (step 7 or above)
- Approved 15-credit Early Childhood Education (ECE) certificate
- Associate degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Human Development
- Current enrollment in the Child Care Division's Central Background Registry
- Current physical examination, drug screen, and TB screen documentation prior to hire
- Ability to drive a private or Agency vehicle; must possess a valid driver's license and personal automobile or provide a plan that will allow fulfillment of position requirements
- DMV Record check will be conducted prior to hire
