Job Summary
Entry-level Associate System Operator responsible for monitoring and controlling the electric grid in a 24/7 operational environment. Training to obtain HVD or LVD certification within 12 months; after certification, monitor/analyze/control CE's electric grid via SCADA, administer switching and tagging orders, and coordinate outages in accordance with ECCM procedures and NERC standards. Responsibilities include directing field resources during outages, ensuring safety and compliance, maintaining certifications, and supporting system restoration. Position requires rotating shifts (nights, weekends, holidays) and on-call duties; candidate will work with High/Low Voltage Distribution substations and interconnected points, using SCADA to operate equipment remotely and ensure reliable service.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree OR Associate's degree with 2 years of relevant experience OR High School Diploma with 4 years of relevant experience
- Obtain Consumers Energy LVD or HVD Certification within the first 12 months.
- Ability to read and interpret complex prints/maps
- Ability to independently write, approve and execute switching and tagging orders of various complexities
- Knowledge of SCADA systems and related devices
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
- Ability to operate a control room console independently in normal or emergency situations
