Job Summary
Associate role at Schmidt Sciences Climate Center to support the carbon cycle portfolio (VICC) and the Carbon Research Frontier Network (CRFN). Responsibilities include facilitating program management for the Virtual Institute of the Carbon Cycle, reviewing and diligence of research proposals, evaluating scientific research to inform grants management, advancing strategic program priorities, building and iterating operational processes, and fostering a strong community of awardees and partners. Key duties cover coordinating awards data, reviewing inquiries related to reporting and payments, monitoring milestones and payments, organizing convenings/workshops, synthesizing takeaways from events, supporting the selection and award process, developing standardized templates and data systems (e.g., Airtable), coordinating contracts for reviewers/advisors, and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency. Must have strong organizational and project coordination skills, clear written/verbal communication, ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines, and experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders; travel within the U.S. and internationally is expected. Preferred Master’s degree or equivalent; experience with scientific research teams or academic institutions and philanthropic organizations is desired.
Required Qualifications
- 3–6 years of program management experience in high-intensity, team-based environments
- Demonstrated ability to work with multiple teams to support management of grant portfolios
- Have the highest integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality
- Values-based, collaborative working style with commitment to ethics, integrity, and confidentiality
- Based in the New York Schmidt Sciences office and able to travel within the U.S. and internationally as needed, following company policy
