Job Summary
Lead the ARPA-E project to collaborate with Saint-Gobain on battery lifetime extension and develop new technologies for lithium extraction and direct recycling of battery electrodes. Conduct integrated experimental and theoretical research on mechano-electrochemical behavior, combining hands-on battery fabrication with rigorous data analysis, AI, and new material development. Write proposals for NSF, DOE, and other funding agencies while managing lab safety, training students, and disseminating findings through publications.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of electrochemistry, battery materials, and electrochemical testing methods
- Ability to fabricate and assemble battery cells (e.g., coin, pouch, cylindrical)
- Ability to conduct cycling and diagnostic tests
- Knowledge of chemo-mechanics and coupled electrochemical–mechanical phenomena in electrodes and active particles
- Ability to design and execute experiments, including optical or in situ characterization techniques for deformation measurements
- Ability to analyze and interpret experimental data and develop physics-based models (e.g., porous electrode theory and single-particle models)
- Familiarity with computational tools for data analysis and/or simulation
- Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, materials science, or a closely related field
- 0–3 years of relevant research experience in battery systems or electrochemical energy storage
