Associate Principal Scientist – Process Analytical Technology and Chemometrics

Job Summary
As an Associate Principal Scientist, provide expert support for continuous manufacturing of commercial drug products through PAT, chemometrics, and process control. Own the lifecycle management of chemometric models across multi-site manufacturing and testing labs, enabling robust PAT implementation (in-line, on-line, at-line) and driving process understanding to deliver business benefits. Lead model updates/validation, troubleshoot PAT instrument/model issues affecting supply, and develop CAPA investigations. Drive integration of PAT/MSPC into on-market strategies, supervise cross-site collaborations with instrument and software vendors, and build business cases for new PAT technologies. Translate complex problems into data-driven analytics solutions, develop real-time or near real-time models, identify opportunities for model improvement and digital innovation, and mentor teams through cross-functional initiatives. Strong knowledge of vibrational spectroscopy (NIR, Raman, microwave) and MVDA/chemometrics (PCA, PLS), with hands-on experience in tools like MATLAB, SIMCA, and Unscrambler, and a solid understanding of process analytical technologies and SHE concepts.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. – 5+ years, MS – 8+ years, BS – 10+ years of relevant industry experience; degree in Analytical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or Engineering
- Data Analytics including Chemometrics and MVDA with success in developing/validating multivariate methods in a commercial environment
- Expertise in PAT methods (spectroscopic) in commercial settings and PAT orchestration
- Experience with in-line, on-line, at-line PAT interfaces and control strategies
- Leadership in deployment of PAT/MSPC and related domain solutions
- Ability to translate complex business problems into data analytics solutions; develop predictive models
- Experience with chemometric modelling software (SIMCA, Unscrambler, MATLAB) and model maintenance
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Knowledge of SHE (Safety, Health & Environment) principles
- Business acumen to understand business cases in subject areas
- Proven ability to train teams and lead cross-site projects
- Experience with software vendors for PAT upgrades
- Familiarity with Digital Twins and simulation models
- Experience in pharmaceutical PAT applications and technology transfer
