Job Summary
Answer telephones, direct callers to appropriate personnel, and route voicemails. Schedule appointments, send patient reminders, and collect medical history forms from new patients. Greet visitors, process payments, make change, and issue receipts. Review and assemble medical records, file documents, and retrieve records for next-day appointments. Enter patient data into computer systems and confirm insurance eligibility. Confers with doctors and nurses to ensure accurate records, computes patient balances, and prepares transaction reports. Sort and route mail while attending meetings and training sessions. Complies with HIPAA and cash handling policies.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- 2+ years of customer services experience and/or experience working in a healthcare environment
- Ability to prepare reports and routine business correspondence
- Ability to interact and communicate with a variety of people, both on a one-on-one basis and in meetings and group presentations; must be able to relate to and work with ill, emotionally upset, and sometimes hostile people
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to follow direction
- Ability to think logically in order to troubleshoot, analyze situations, and make appropriate decisions
- Proficient computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail systems, and web-based programs
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to work in a fast-paced office environment
- Ability to stand and sit for periods of time and to move intermittently throughout the workday
- Strong sensory skills, such as visual acuity, good hearing, and dexterity
- Ability to occasionally push, pull, lift, move, and/or carry up to 15 pounds with or without assistance
- Good speaking and listening skills
- Ability to perform focused work with close attention to detail
- Ability to operate office equipment, including computers, copiers, fax machines, and phones
- Ability to interact with others, both in person and through phone, e-mail, and written correspondence
- Candidates are required to pass a drug test before beginning employment
