Associate General Counsel - Litigation, Compliance & Risk Management

Job Summary

Manage company litigation, receivership disputes, subpoenas, government complaints, settlement negotiations, and related legal proceedings. Serve as the primary legal contact for litigation and dispute-related matters, coordinating with internal stakeholders and outside counsel. Direct litigation administration, including matter intake, budgeting, reporting, tracking, document management, and deadline oversight. Advise the company on legal compliance, corporate governance, permitting, licensing, entity management, and regulatory obligations. Maintain corporate records and organizational compliance documentation for all applicable entities. Partner with Human Resources on labor and employment matters, workplace investigations, and regulatory compliance issues. Lead Legal Department participation in risk management initiatives, including insurance claims, strategy, incident response, crisis management, safety, and security matters. Develop, implement, and maintain legal policies, procedures, templates, playbooks, and contract management resources. Coordinate with courts, government agencies, insurers, clients, lenders, vendors, tenants, and other third parties. Provide practical, business-focused legal guidance to support operational and strategic objectives.

Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
  • Active license to practice law in the State of Michigan and membership in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience practicing law
  • Substantial experience in litigation
  • Substantial experience in regulatory compliance
  • Substantial experience in risk management
  • Substantial experience in corporate legal matters
  • Proven ability to manage complex litigation
  • Proven ability to manage disputes
  • Proven ability to manage government inquiries
  • Proven ability to manage settlements
  • Proven ability to manage outside counsel relationships
  • Strong knowledge of corporate governance
  • Strong knowledge of business operations
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance
  • Strong knowledge of licensing
  • Strong knowledge of permitting
  • Strong knowledge of organizational risk management
  • Experience advising executive leadership on employment law
  • Experience advising executive leadership on employee relations
  • Experience advising executive leadership on workplace compliance
  • Experience advising executive leadership on high-risk legal issues
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
