Job Summary
The Wisconsin Energy Institute seeks a Senior leader to serve as Business Engagement Director, providing leadership and program direction for WEI across a multi-disciplinary, multi-institution environment. The role directs communications, education, and outreach groups (seven staff), supervises facility space assignments and EH&S, and represents the WEI Director with external stakeholders. Responsibilities include developing and executing strategic planning initiatives, policies, budgets, and operational priorities; building and sustaining research-team and industry partnerships; coordinating campaigns, engagement efforts, and events; and serving on the WEI Executive Committee. The incumbent will manage director-level staff and contribute to organizational strategy, with partial remote work available (up to two days per week) under an approved remote work agreement; located at the Wisconsin Energy Institute, Madison, WI. The position requires a minimum of 6 years of senior-level business engagement experience, strong relationship-building with industry and stakeholder groups, and exceptional leadership and communication skills. Starting salary is based on experience, with a minimum offer of $140,000, plus benefits.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 6 years of senior-level business engagement experience with demonstrated success developing networks and collaborations with internal and external stakeholders
- Experience working with industry connections to support research and other goals
- Experience overseeing external relations, communications, and/or outreach processes and resources; ability to manage multiple diverse projects, events, deadlines
- Ability to develop best practices and manage major process improvement initiatives in rapidly changing operations and research environments
- Demonstrated skill in policy development, strategic planning, change management, program development
- Ability to manage, motivate, direct and lead effectively among a diverse group of scientific, technical and administrative personnel
- Superior oral, written and interpersonal skills; excellent presentation and organizational skills
- Preferred qualifications: experience with government and private funding agencies and complex university, federal, and private research grants
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree preferred; Master’s Degree highly preferred
