Job Summary
Associate Director of Systems Engineering to lead the development of an automated beverage platform. Own the product roadmap and act as the ultimate accountable person for the success of the automated beverage system, defining requirements and driving the technical vision. Architect high-level systems across mechanical, electrical, and software domains; lead full product lifecycle from concepts and prototyping to real-world pilots; guide a cross-functional team of hardware and software engineers; manage aggressive but achievable development timelines and proactively mitigate risks. Collaborate with the culinary platform team to ensure alignment with business ambitions. Lead evaluation of technology partners and vendor relationships in the beverage equipment industry, and determine when to outsource or build in-house. The role requires a minimum of 4 days in the office, based in the Boston, MA office. Salary range $229,000–$255,000 per year, with equity and comprehensive benefits; relocation assistance not specified.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering or a related technical field
- 12+ years of engineering leadership experience
- significant track record of leading large-scale, complex hardware/software projects from scratch (robotics or industrial automation preferred)
- deep expertise in systems integration, robotics, or industrial automation
- experience discussing controls architecture, mechanical design and software
- demonstrated ability to synthesize requirements into a cohesive system architecture
- execution focus with a builder mindset
- strong communication skills capable of briefing executives and guiding individual contributors
- organizational skills and proficiency with modern project management tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence, Miro)
- experience owning product requirements and aligning with business priorities and user needs
- experience or established relationships with beverage equipment vendors (strongly preferred)
