Job Summary
Associate Director, Real Estate Markets Finance supports Directors in the REM group by underwriting new loan requests, completing annual reviews and loan amendments, and performing other credit-related functions. The role provides deal support for bilateral and syndicate loans including proforma and budget analysis, cash flow analysis, financial statements review, and market analysis, and involves credit writing and structuring competitively tailored credit solutions—from credit writing to risk approval to funding—while proactively managing portfolio quality. Daily administration of the lending portfolio and collaboration with internal/external partners to deliver sound credit strategies, with a focus on quick response to credit requests, client-centric solutions, and timely renewals. Requires experience in commercial real estate/credit analysis, strong financial modeling and Excel skills, ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, effective communication, and independent as well as collaborative work style. Nice-to-have MBA, CPA or CFA and experience with large, complex real estate credit and syndicate transactions, and exposure to a broad range of real estate asset classes. Location: Vancouver, Canada.
Required Qualifications
- Must-have Experience in commercial real estate, commercial banking, and/or similar credit analysis and underwriting experience in commercial finance
- Ability to perform well under pressure, meet time sensitive deadlines and prioritize multiple responsibilities to meet client needs
- An undergraduate degree in Business, Economics, Accounting, or Finance with strong quantitative, financial modeling, and analytical skills, as well as an ability to analyze financial statements
- Demonstrated ability to work and collaborate effectively
- Strong interpersonal, analytical, technical and computer skills (especially Microsoft Excel)
- Detail-oriented, able to synthesize data and communicate in a succinct and clear manner
- Professional and effective oral and written communication skills with high level of attention to detail in both written work and financial analysis
- Self-motivated, proactive, critical thinker with creative problem-solving abilities
- Able to adapt quickly, always learning, and thriving in the face of ambiguity
- Independent worker and team player with a positive attitude
- Nice-to-have Experience working with large, complex real estate credit and syndicate transactions
- Experience financing a wide range of real estate asset classes, including rental apartments, low-rise condos, single-family or multi-family homes, high-rise condominiums, commercial properties, hotels, senior housing and/or master planned communities
- Client facing experience
- Experience with peer coaching and mentorship
- MBA, CPA or CFA
