Job Summary
Full-time Associate Director of College Counseling at Thayer Academy to guide students and families through the college admissions process. Reports to the Director of College Counseling and collaborates with a team of counselors. Responsibilities include helping students with applications and writing process, advising on course selection, writing letters of recommendation, planning and coordinating college workshops, assisting with Scoir college planning platform, identifying summer programs, advising faculty on curricular impacts, coordinating PSAT/AP testing, staying informed on financial aid issues, building relationships with college admission officers, hosting admissions officers on campus, representing Thayer in professional associations, and pursuing opportunities to visit college campuses and conferences. Summer work duties and ongoing office preparation are included. Requires strong writing, communication, organizational, and teamwork skills and a Master’s degree preferred with 5-7 years of related experience.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree preferred
- At least 5-7 years of prior college counseling experience at an independent secondary school or selective college admissions experience
- Demonstrated knowledge base of U.S. colleges/universities and independent schools; knowledge of overseas programs a plus
- Demonstrated counseling skills beyond college admissions extending to the context of family dynamics
- Ability and desire to work in a dynamic and collaborative team environment
- Exceptional writing, communication/marketing, interpersonal, organizational, and decision-making skills
- Prior experience coordinating the PSAT and AP is a plus
