Job Summary
Analyze financial documents for commercial mortgage applications, including rent rolls, operating statements, and third-party reports like appraisals and environmental assessments. Provide oversight to analysts by reviewing underwriting, credit applications, and loan commitments while making decisions on complex structuring and credit advancement. Work directly with clients to gather due diligence, recommend mortgage solutions, and prepare Letters of Interest and Commitment Letters. Coordinate with funders, investors, legal teams, and consultants to ensure loan conditions are met and exceptions are authorized by senior management. Monitor construction loan draws, cross-reference budgets, and analyze pro-formas for multi-unit housing projects. Mentor team members and adhere to AML requirements throughout the loan approval process.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in commercial real estate lending
- Undergraduate Degree and/or MBA with focus in a Finance/ Real Estate related discipline
- 6-7 years' experience in a relative commercial real estate role
- Knowledge of applicable real estate lending regulations
- Experience in financial analysis (i.e. balance sheet, income statement)
- Organizational skills to manage several ongoing and competing tasks simultaneously
- Experience communicating with clients, appraisers, engineers, lawyers, consultants, investors and/or credit committees
- Strong understanding of legal documentation, ownership structures and AML requirements
- Ability to work with minimum supervision
- Results oriented and highly motivated self-starter
Desired Qualifications
- Preferred experience in CMHC and/or construction finance, development industry, private equity, cost consulting, or accounting with a commercial mortgage focus
- Familiarity with principles of property valuation and the construction process
- Advanced PC skills, with an emphasis on Word and Excel
- High degree of consistent accuracy and attention to detail
- Bilingualism (French, English)
