Job Summary
Associate Director (Fire Engineer) at AECOM UK leading and developing a team of fire engineers, overseeing delivery of large Defence projects, ensuring regulatory compliance and client satisfaction, leading performance reviews and professional development, mentoring staff toward Chartership, managing budgets and schedules, leading client relationships and business growth, and applying UK Defence standards and fire engineering tools (FDS, SFE, evacuation modelling) across multidisciplinary design projects. The role emphasizes leadership, project delivery, and technical input across Defence and multi-disciplinary environments, with hybrid work options and a strong focus on quality, safety, and client engagement.
Required Qualifications
- Extensive experience in a large, multi-disciplinary environment
- Comprehensive knowledge of UK standards and guidance documents (ADB, BS 9991, BS 9999, BS 9992, HTM 05-02, BB100)
- Comprehensive knowledge of Defence standards including JSP 80 and DIFS
- Proficiency in fire engineering tools such as FDS, SFE, and evacuation modelling software
- Membership in professional institutions such as MIFireE and/or NFPA certifications (CFPE)
- BEng/MEng or MSc in fire science, fire engineering or similar
- Good level of security clearance or history of clearance (preferred)
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) with the Institution of Fire Engineering (preferred)
- Extensive knowledge of fire engineering tools (FDS, evacuation modelling, structural fire safety engineering)
- PhD in a fire-related discipline (preferred)
- International experience with standards such as IBC, SFPE and NFPA (preferred)
