Job Summary
The Associate Director of Finance leads the organization’s accounting operations, ensures strong internal controls, oversees financial reporting and grant-related accounting, manages the accounting team, budgets, audits, and regulatory compliance, and partners with senior leadership to support the nonprofit’s financial health. Responsibilities include supervising staff, ensuring timely payroll/accounts payable/receivable processing, managing cash flow, preparing monthly/quarterly/annual reports, coordinating audits, maintaining accounting policies, and supporting the Finance Committee. Requires nonprofit accounting knowledge, GAAP, Uniform Guidance, grant accounting experience, and strong collaboration with organizational leaders.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
- At least 5 years of accounting experience with increasing responsibility, preferably in a nonprofit organization
- Experience applying GAAP
- Experience supporting grant-funded work
- Experience supervising and developing accounting staff
- Managing budgeting, reporting, audit, and internal controls
- Strong Excel skills; experience with financial and payroll systems
- Ability to work with diverse communities and disability organizations
- Knowledge of GAAP and federal grant requirements under Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200)
- California wage and hour laws
