Associate Director, FCC Models & Product Risk

Job Summary
Lead the global second-line authority and owner of financial crime detection models, risk analytics, and automated control frameworks within Airwallex’s FCC organization. Own the global methodology, thresholds, and data-scoring for financial crime typologies; collaborate with Product Risk, Engineering, and regulators to translate regulatory obligations into precise product requirements and risk roadmaps. Drive model governance, calibration, and validation, and oversee deployment of analytics, machine learning, and graph databases. This senior role requires deep production-analytic fluency, strong AML/Sanctions knowledge, and the ability to partner across global teams; role can be based in the US or EMEA.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Financial Engineering, Econometrics or equivalent
- Practical fluency in SQL and scripting languages (Python or R)
- 8 to 12+ years of total experience in financial institutions or tech platforms
- Experience leading FCC model governance, compliance analytics, or transaction monitoring optimization (4+ years)
- Experience designing, configuring, or tuning transaction monitoring and sanctions screening engines
- Proven track record in data-driven threshold tuning and statistical segmentations to optimize detection logic
- Experience defending automated models and risk-scoring methodologies to regulators and banking partners
- Experience establishing a model inventory and independent validation framework aligned with international regulatory benchmarks
