Job Summary
Associate Director, Disability Support at American University leads a team of Disability Access Advisors in delivering accommodations for students with disabilities, including academic and residential accommodations, and oversees accommodated testing. Responsibilities include directing client services through individual counseling and collaboration with faculty, academic advisors, and families; hiring, training, and managing staff; overseeing the reasonable accommodation decision-making process; providing professional development and consulting with campus partners; maintaining case notes and authorizing accommodations; driving program enhancements and data evaluation; and serving on university committees. Requires a Master’s degree or equivalent, 5-8 years of postsecondary experience, familiarity with disability documentation and 504/ADA/Fair Housing Act requirements, and strong communication and supervisory skills. Salary range: $85,400 - $90,000 annually. Work modality is hybrid with on-campus presence 3-4 days per week, located at American University in Washington, DC.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree or equivalent
- 5 - 8 years of relevant experience
- Five years of experience at the postsecondary level
- familiarity with disability documentation including psychoeducational and neuropsychological evaluation reports
- experience with 504/ADA/Fair Housing Act requirements
- experience providing academic support services
- experience advocating for student populations
- excellent verbal, writing, and presentation skills
- supervision experience strongly preferred
