Job Summary
Associate Curator, Contemporary Art at the Art Gallery of Ontario will plan, build, and present exhibitions for the AGO’s post-2000 contemporary collection, collaborate with internal and external partners, manage relationships with lenders and interns, oversee installation and care of artworks, prepare documentation for reviews, and contribute to scholarly publications and public engagement. The role requires advancing the AGO’s mission through exhibitions, research, and collaboration across departments, including coordinating with the Rapp Curator and the Contemporary Curatorial Committee, and supporting donor programs and international outreach.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum MA in Art History or similar discipline
- Graduate level education and extensive knowledge of contemporary art, with a demonstrated specialization and familiarity with key currents in the field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience organizing major exhibitions and collection development
- Minimum of 5 years of direct experience researching collaboratively within a museum setting
- Minimum of 2 years of direct experience with curatorial administrative management
- Demonstrated writing and research skills; ability to communicate with diverse audiences
- Strong knowledge of collections management software such as The Museum System (TMS)
- Excellent English proficiency; knowledge of French or other languages is an asset
- Demonstrated commitment to teamwork and public engagement
- Experience with budget development and management
- Ability to plan long-term and work with multiple stakeholders
