Job Summary
Conduct geotechnical field investigations, construction monitoring, and site characterization for mine waste facilities including Tailings Storage Facilities and Heap Leach Pads. Execute facility design tasks covering grading, storage capacity, slope stability, seepage, and liner system analyses while preparing technical reports and project design packages. Perform domestic and international field assignments and collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute engineering studies and surveys. Adhere to safety guidelines and WSP's Code of Conduct while working schedules that may differ from the typical workweek.
Required Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in civil or geotechnical engineering or an equivalent field of study.
- 1 to 3 years of relevant post education experience.
- Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam or the ability to complete the exam within 6 months of start date.
- Strong analytical skills including the ability to complete engineering calculations and analyses.
- Ability to work both independently and on teams.
- Comfortable working in remote settings.
- Participating in and promoting a safety-first culture.
- Ability and willingness to travel both domestically and internationally.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
- Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
- Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may differ from the typical workweek.
Desired Qualifications
- A master's degree in civil or geotechnical engineering or an equivalent field of study
- Engineer in Training Certification.
- Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (i.e., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, GeoStudio, Muk3D, Rocscience/Slide 2D).
- A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
