Job Summary
Evaluate acceptability of system-referred new business, change requests, and renewals within your level of authority while ensuring accurate data for the Homeowner/Mobile home book of business. Review amendments to existing policies for acceptance, modification, or declination, and enter specialized data to underwrite and process bulk changes. Communicate underwriting decisions to agents, insureds, and others to promote positive working relationships, and recommend termination of existing accounts when appropriate. Assist in training employees on the Policy STAR/Policy PRO system and participate in special projects and meetings. Maintain a high level of confidentiality while organizing work, prioritizing tasks, and responding to unexpected situations requiring immediate attention.
Required Qualifications
- College degree or insurance related designation
- Minimum of one year insurance experience in underwriting, claims, or sales
- 3-5 years' of experience in Underwriting
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret procedures, regulations, instructions, manuals, and other documents
- Excellent telephone, public relations and oral/written communication skills
- Ability to resolve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form
- Basic skills with personal computer
- Experience with Windows
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with internet
- Ability to regularly sit
- Ability to use hands to finger, handle controls
- Ability to talk and hear
- Ability to frequently reach with hands and arms
- Ability to occasionally stand, walk, and stoop
- Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to ten pounds
- Close vision
- Ability to adjust focus
- Must be able to organize, prioritize work and manage time wisely
- Knowledge of office administration procedures
- Ability to operate most standard office equipment

Desired Qualifications
- Continued involvement in professional continued education
- Completion of Introduction to Risk Management & Insurance, or higher-level course
