Job Summary
Asset Management & Underwriting Associate at Hilco Global Real Estate Capital (HREC) supporting the management of opportunistic real estate credit investments and underwriting across the US and Canada. Responsibilities include portfolio oversight through borrower reporting, operating performance, leasing activity, construction progress, and business plan execution; review of borrower financials, rent rolls, and compliance; monitoring loan covenants, reserves, and performance milestones; preparation of periodic portfolio reviews and risk analyses; participation in property inspections and borrower meetings; support for loan modifications, extensions, consents, collateral releases, and other portfolio activities; coordination with legal counsel and third parties; development of underwriting templates and reporting frameworks; underwriting and execution of real estate debt and structured finance opportunities; building detailed financial models to evaluate collateral value, cash flow, sponsor strength, and downside risk; preparation of investment memoranda and presentations for internal investment committees; and market research to identify themes and risk factors. The role emphasizes strong financial modeling, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to portfolio management in a dynamic investment environment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Real Estate, Accounting, Economics, or a related field
- 2-4 years of experience in commercial real estate lending, underwriting, credit analysis, principal investing, structured finance, or asset management
- Strong financial modeling, valuation, and analytical capabilities
- Understanding of commercial real estate fundamentals across multiple asset classes (multifamily, industrial, office, retail, hospitality, land, and specialty properties)
- Experience reviewing financial statements, rent rolls, operating budgets, and third-party due diligence reports
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for preparing investment memoranda and presenting analyses to senior professionals
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines
- Entrepreneurial mindset and ability to work in a dynamic, high-volume investment environment
