Job Summary
Build awareness of AbbVie Ventures among early-stage life science investors, founders, and accelerators globally. Participate in conferences to identify and evaluate opportunities aligned with R&D strategies in oncology, immunology, neuroscience, and aesthetics. Lead assessment and evaluation processes with Search & Evaluation teams, developing recommendations for senior management and driving deal execution including diligence and committee presentations. Manage portfolio companies by monitoring developments, maintaining relationships with executive management and Boards, and serving as a key internal point of contact. Requires an advanced degree in life sciences with 6+ years postgraduate experience and 3+ years in early-stage life science investment. Based in Shanghai, China, with ~25% domestic and international travel.
Required Qualifications
- Advanced degree in life sciences (PhD, MD PhD)
- At least 6+ yr of postgraduate experience
- Drug discovery experience
- 3+ yr of Investment experience in early-stage life science
- Focus on pre-Seed through Series B, including business incubation/company creation
- Good understanding of the drug discovery, development, regulatory, and commercialization process
- Rigorous scientific knowledge to objectively evaluate potential business opportunities
- Exceptional talent and organizational skills to evaluate target opportunities and produce high quality analyses
- Ability to drive projects to deliver timely results and follow through on commitments
- Strong communication skills to effectively communicate business strategies and capabilities internally and externally
- Ability to present individual and team recommendations clearly and concisely
- Proactive and engaging social and networking skills to reach out to a broad range of industry decision makers
- An established network and personal brand in the biopharma community
- Candidate must be able to act independently without daily onsite managerial supervision
- Role will be based in the Shanghai, China, area
- Role will require domestic and international travel of ~25%
Desired Qualifications
- Drug discovery experience is preferred, but not required, with ability to work across all AbbVie core areas of interest (oncology, immunology, neuroscience, specialty/obesity, aesthetics)
