Assisted Outpatient Treatment Peer Specialist

Job Summary
Provide advocacy and support for consumers and families, and assist in developing personal recovery goals. Deliver recreation therapy and mental health treatment services per the resident’s treatment plan; develop coursework and classes; teach skills suitable to residents’ functioning levels; foster constructive relationships to promote physical and emotional health and independent living; plan and direct groups addressing physical/emotional health, stress management, coping, social and leisure skills, community reintegration, and activities of daily living; document services per facility procedures; evaluate interventions to meet goals; contribute to safety and efficient functioning of the Recreation Therapy Department; participate in on-call rotation; may work 1:1 with residents and coordinate with supervisors and floor staff. Requires flexibility in scheduling, background checks, and ability to pass a pre-employment medical exam if required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or Leisure Service (or a Bachelor’s Degree with at least 30 semester hours in recreation therapy or leisure services)
- CTRS certification preferred
- Minimum of six months of experience in mental health field and/or internship focused in mental health or residential setting
- CPR certification (must have or be able to obtain)
- Ability to assess, plan, provide, and evaluate individuals and groups
- Knowledge of current developments in the field of Recreational Therapy
- Excellent written & verbal communications skills
- Background checks with previous employers and references
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to pass a drug screen
