Job Summary
Assisted Living Director leads and develops the care team to deliver respectful, high-quality assisted living services for residents. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, and coaching staff; ensuring ongoing staff education and regulatory compliance; coordinating care plans, resident assessments, and family/community education programs; managing budgeting and labor costs; maintaining safety standards and adherence to Federal, State, and local regulations; and acting as a key operations leader (Manager on Duty) to support resident well-being and program quality. The role requires strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, experience supervising care teams, familiarity with dementia care, and the ability to navigate compliance requirements and interdepartmental collaboration. A AA or certificate in a related field is required, with a bachelor’s degree preferred, First Aid/CPR certification, and relevant licensure or certifications as dictated by state regulations.
Required Qualifications
- AA or Certificate in Gerontology, Social Services, Business Administration, or similar field, required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Social Services, Gerontology, Social Work, Nursing, Recreational Therapy, or Management, preferred
- Current First Aid and CPR Certification required
- Nurse’s Aide or similar certification if required by State regulations
- 1+ years of prior related work experience functioning in a similar management role with supervisory experience
- Prior experience working with people with dementia, preferred
- Must complete required Background clearances, health screening and provide negative TB test results within 7 days of employment
- Valid driver’s license and insurance or reliable transportation for resident assessments
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Excellent communication skills (speaking, writing, reading) and public speaking abilities
- Ability to make independent decisions in stressful situations
- Professional, tactful interaction with staff, residents, families, and guests
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills
- Ability to work independently without day-to-day oversight
