Assistant Track Coach - Sprints (2 positions)

Job Summary

Teach participants fundamentals and skills, assist in planning and scheduling regular practice programs, and oversee safety conditions of facilities during student presence. Enforce discipline and sportsmanlike behavior, maintain accurate statistics and records, and recommend equipment purchases. Supervise students, assistants, and volunteers, promote a positive program image, and assist the head coach in developing public communications procedures. Stay current in certifications, maintain attendance and insurance paperwork, and adhere to injury prevention protocols while performing duties inside or outside in varying environmental conditions.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma
  • Experience playing and coaching in applicable sport
  • Iowa Coaching Endorsement
  • Valid Iowa teaching license preferred
  • Experience in physical education
  • Experience in coaching
  • Experience in first aid
  • Experience in CPR
  • Experience in sports medicine
  • Competency in the areas of content knowledge and strategies for the specific sport
  • Knowledge of conference, district and state rules in relevant sport
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
  • Ability to function effectively as part of a coaching team, support peer coaches, plan collaboratively, and work constructively with the coaching team to solve problems that arise
  • Possess the physical skills necessary to demonstrate techniques for the specific sport
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of students or employees of the District
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commission, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume
  • Possess leadership skills and organizational ability
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively with staff and school administration
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment
  • Ability to travel and work non-traditional hours

  • Must be capable of frequently bending or twisting at the trunk while performing duties of the job
  • Must be capable of frequently squatting, stooping, kneeling, reaching above the head, reaching forward and repeating the same hand motion many times while performing the duties of the job
  • Must have vision with good depth perception and occasionally being able to see objects/persons at a distance
  • Must be able to hear conversation in a quiet as well as a noisy environment
  • Must be capable of working in broad range of temperatures, humidity and other winter and summer environments
  • Must be capable of working in a noisy environment
  • Must have physical dexterity in limbs and digits necessary to physically interact with students in a sporting environment
  • Some travel required

Desired Qualifications

  • BA degree with a major or minor in physical education or equivalent hours and courses in coaching theory
  • Valid Iowa teaching license preferred
