Job Summary
Balance workload across the ChemSearch and ChemDev team by allocating reactions and requests while tracking outstanding orders to meet target turnaround times. Step in to lead daily team activities when the Team Leader is unavailable, managing your own synthesis campaigns from route selection through purification and analysis. Design experiments, execute manual and automated procedures, and critically interpret analytical data using TLC, Flash LC, HPLC, and UPLC to confirm outcomes. Mentor less experienced chemists and produce accurate documentation for client reports. Contribute ideas for improved laboratory processes and support performance tracking against team goals. Based at our Glasgow site, this on-site role offers a competitive salary and is a natural step toward full team leadership.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in synthetic organic chemistry
- Equivalent experience to a PhD in synthetic organic chemistry
- Several years in an industrial synthetic chemistry laboratory
- Proven experience delivering synthesis projects independently, from route selection through to purification and analysis
- Comfortable managing competing priorities and following up on outstanding work across more than just your own workload
- Strong communication skills
- Confident liaising with route managers, project managers and the wider team
- Comfortable with the pace and occasional setbacks of laboratory synthesis work
- On-site position at the Glasgow site
- UK right to work
Desired Qualifications
- Prior experience leading, supervising or mentoring others
