Assistant Teacher - Little Cubs Early Learning Center (Part-Time)

Job Summary

Support the lead teacher in delivering a high-quality program that caters to each child's needs by planning and implementing educational activities. Monitor children during indoor and outdoor play, assist with hygiene needs including diaper changes and hand washing, and help prepare daily snacks. Ensure children's belongings are packed and removed from cubbies before dismissal while maintaining a clean, organized classroom. Observe children to report health, behavior, or learning issues to the lead teacher and adhere to Connecticut state regulations and the Preschool Assessment Framework. Participate in monthly staff meetings, collaborate on projects, and attend professional development, training workshops, and conferences.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent, or a minimum of 540 hours of experience in working with unrelated children of a comparable age group
  • At least 1 year of experience working in an early childhood classroom
  • Must provide documentation of a physical examination and a negative TINE test, valid within one year of employment
  • Must maintain active and up-to-date certifications in professional development, first aid, CPR, medical, and EpiPen
  • Patience and the ability to remain calm and composed in all situations
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, administration, and staff
  • Flexibility and responsiveness to the program's needs
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs when necessary
  • Must be able to handle bodily fluids such as urine, feces, saliva, and vomit
  • Must be able to work in varying weather or temperature conditions, including severe heat and cold
  • Must be able to stand or walk throughout different locations such as the classroom, playground, office, building, or grounds
  • Must be able to interact with various objects, apparatus, and equipment used in classroom activities
  • Must be able to assist children with personal needs such as toileting, changing clothes, and transitions to and from changing tables
  • Must be able to observe children and report any health, behavior, or learning issues
  • Must be able to adhere to local, state, and federal regulations and follow the Connecticut Preschool Assessment Framework and curriculum
  • Must be able to participate in monthly staff meetings and collaborate with lead teachers to prepare activities and projects
  • Must be able to meet continuing education requirements by attending professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops
  • Must be available for part-time work
  • Must be available for 12-month employment

  • Ability to help prepare daily snacks and help children during clean-up time
  • Ability to ensure all children's belongings are packed into their backpacks and removed from their cubbies before dismissal each day
  • Ability to maintain a clean and organized classroom
  • Ability to foster an environment conducive to children's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development
  • Ability to ensure the safety and well-being of the children at all times
