Assistant Teacher I

Job Summary
Assist in instruction of preschool-aged children in Head Start programs, supporting the Lead Teacher with planning and conducting developmentally appropriate activities; supervise children, maintain a safe and engaging learning environment, and facilitate relationships with families to align with Head Start Program Performance Standards. Duties include implementing classroom projects and field trips, maintaining documentation and observations, participating in parent-teacher conferences, supporting health, nutrition, and self-help skills, and assisting with records, meetings, and professional development. Requires a CDA credential or state-equivalent, English proficiency, collaboration skills, confidentiality, and CPR/First Aid certification as required.
Required Qualifications
- Child Development Associate (CDA) or state-awarded credential meeting or exceeding CDA requirements
- Enrolled in a CDA credential program to be completed within two years of hire
- Professional proficiency in spoken and written English
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Head Start/Early Head Start program
- Demonstrated interpersonal, communication and organizational skills; ability to follow directions and take initiative
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate with individuals and teams at all levels, including students, families, coworkers, and community members
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with Head Start Teacher, other staff, parents and community partners in the provision of high-quality services to children and families
- Proven ability to keep all information on families strictly confidential
- Professional proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and online client management systems
- Must participate in professional development training including basic first aid and pediatric CPR certification as required by state licensing and HSPPS
