Job Summary
The Assistant Teacher helps provide a language-rich, nurturing, safe and challenging therapeutic environment for 3- and 4-year-old preschoolers who are deaf or hard of hearing, working under the classroom teacher to implement lesson plans, prepare materials, and support language and social-emotional development. Responsibilities include collaboration with the classroom teacher; following daily activities and goals; using developmentally appropriate language and practices to support auditory and spoken language; supervising children to ensure safety; recording and analyzing language samples; engaging individuals and small groups in activities; maintaining and organizing the classroom; assisting with toileting and feeding tasks as needed; communicating with families consistent with the teacher’s guidance; and participating in professional learning, team meetings, and other duties as assigned by the director. This is a non-exempt, full-time role aligned with the school year and 6-week summer calendar, with general hours of 8:00 am–4:00 pm. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood, Special Education, Speech/Audiology or related field
- NYS Teacher Assistant certification (or willingness to immediately get)
- Experience with children 5 and under in school/daycare/camp setting preferred
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
