Assistant Superintendent

Job Summary

Directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course and landscape grounds, assisting in planning, laying out, and supervising all turf and grounds work. Schedules daily operations, supervises employees and equipment usage, and instructs operators on mowing and machinery care. Oversees pesticide applications, calibrates application equipment, and manages irrigation, drainage, and pump systems. Handles personnel management, including hiring, termination, safety, and discipline, while preparing clear reports and maintaining public relations. Requires a current Florida Restricted Pesticide License and Greens Industries BMP certificate within 90 days. Will work weekends and holidays, performing most tasks outdoors with physical demands including lifting 50 lbs, bending, and standing for up to four hours.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent General Education Degree (GED)
  • Two-year turf degree or equivalent work experience and/or training
  • Three years golf course maintenance experience
  • Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course greens, tees, fairways, rough and bunkers
  • Working knowledge of the seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf
  • Working knowledge of the planting, cultivation, pruning and caring for annuals, shrubs and trees
  • Working knowledge of the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners
  • Working knowledge of herbicides and pest control methods and materials
  • Working knowledge of drainage control methods
  • Working knowledge of irrigation systems, including wells, pumps and automatic controls
  • Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment
  • Ability to prepare clear and concise reports
  • Ability to maintain effective employee and public relations
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work weekends and holidays
  • Must be able to walk
  • Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 4 hours in length
  • Must be able to reach different outlets and other departments of the resort on a timely basis
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch on a regular basis
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a current Florida Restricted Pesticide License and Greens Industries BMP certificate within 90 days of hire
