Job Summary
Conduct field inspections for highway and rail bridge projects to verify compliance with contract documents, specifications, and approved plans. Inspect concrete, steel, structural elements, foundations, and related infrastructure while monitoring contractor operations and documenting progress. Prepare daily inspection reports, field notes, photographs, and project documentation; review material testing results and coordinate with contractors, project engineers, public agencies, and client representatives. Identify construction deficiencies and assist in resolving field issues, participate in project meetings, and verify compliance with safety, environmental, and quality requirements. Assist with contract administration and project closeout activities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, from an ABET-accredited college or a related field preferred
- Minimum six (6) years of bridge inspection or construction inspection experience in transportation for main-career level
- Minimum of ten (10) years experience and a California State Professional Engineering (PE) license for Senior level
- Experience with highway bridge, rail bridge, bridge expansion, rehabilitation, retrofit, or replacement projects
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and engineering documents
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and electronic documentation systems
- Valid Driver's License and ability to travel to project sites throughout California State
Desired Qualifications
- Caltrans bridge construction or inspection experience
- Certifications related to bridge inspection, construction inspection, or quality assurance
- Experience working on public agency transportation projects
- Knowledge of AREMA, FRA, and railroad construction standards
- Experience with seismic retrofit and bridge rehabilitation projects
