Assistant Resident Engineer

Job Summary

Coordinate with JFK Airport Facility and operations personnel to ensure work progresses efficiently while minimizing impacts to airport operations. Review submittals, prepare transmittal letters accepting or rejecting contractor submissions, and monitor schedules, change orders, and weekly reports to identify cost-saving ideas and solve potential problems. Supervise field staff to verify proper installation of work, maintain accurate project documentation, and approve daily field inspection reports. Track classified work items, time-and-material tickets, and project records to ensure accountability. Prepare extra work orders, net cost change orders, and associated cost estimates while reviewing contractor payment applications for accuracy and contract compliance. Assist the Resident Engineer in preparing monthly reports on project progress and financial status, proactively identifying and elevating potential risks or issues.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil engineering from an accredited four‐year college or university or approved equivalent
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience
  • Ability to support non-standard work hours, including potential night and weekend shifts, and accommodate extended work hours as project needs require
  • Must possess all agency required certifications and security clearances
  • OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety certification required
  • Training in fall protection
  • Training in Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT)
  • Training in confined space entry
  • Training in permit-required confined space entry
  • Proficiency with eBuilder
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Valid Driver's License required
  • Physically capable of walking and moving about on the construction sites
  • Good hand-eye coordination
  • Occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds
  • Must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S.

Desired Qualifications

  • Active registered Professional Engineer license preferred
  • ACI Concrete Special Inspector certification preferred
  • Structural steel bolting inspector certification preferred
  • Work Zone Safety Certifications preferred
