Assistant Resident Engineer (Civil Infrastructure)

Job Summary
Supervise and manage day-to-day construction of civil infrastructure works on the island, including roads, drainage networks, utilities, and retaining structures. Administer construction contracts, review contractor submissions, and monitor quality and materials while working with survey teams to ensure accurate setting out. Coordinate interfaces between work packages, manage non-conformance reports, and lead safety initiatives including risk assessments and toolbox talks. Assist with inspections and documentation for handover of civil infrastructure assets. Requires a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and minimum 12 years in construction supervision. Full-time role based in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (or closely related)
- Minimum 12 years in construction supervision of civil infrastructure, preferably in site-based engineer or ARE roles
- Technical knowledge: drainage and utility design concepts, standards and codes, reading drawings, QA/QC procedures
- Familiarity with applicable civil engineering standards and codes (UAE/authority standards)
- Ability to read and interpret civil drawings, longitudinal and cross sections, utility coordination drawings, details, and technical specifications
- Experience implementing quality control and assurance procedures, including ITPs, inspection checklists, and material testing requirements for infrastructure works
- Proven ability to lead and supervise inspectors and junior engineers in a busy project environment
- Strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental compliance, particularly when working in remote/island and coastal conditions
- Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with basic project management and document control systems
Desired Qualifications
- Experience delivering civil infrastructure on island, coastal, or marine-related projects (e.g., resort infrastructure, port access roads, causeways, coastal drainage)
- Familiarity with utility authority requirements and procedures for design approval, inspection, and asset handover
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to propose practical, buildable solutions on site that respect design intent, safety, and budget constraints
- Demonstrated track record of mentoring and developing junior staff and inspectors
- Flexibility and adaptability to live and work in a remote island setting, including willingness to adjust to varying site conditions and work schedules
