Assistant Quality Manager

Job Summary

Develop and implement quality assurance and quality control processes to ensure construction projects meet established standards and client specifications. Collaborate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and regulatory bodies to monitor activities, conduct inspections, and verify compliance with industry regulations and safety standards. Perform regular audits and assessments to identify improvement areas, manage quality issues, and prepare detailed reports for stakeholders. Assist in developing quality management systems, mentoring junior staff, and providing training on quality procedures. Coordinate with multiple departments to support quality initiatives and foster strong relationships with clients and regulatory bodies. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry regulations, standards, and best practices, including three-phase QC and Built-In Quality methodologies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in quality management, engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum of five years' experience in quality management, quality assurance as a Building Inspector, Inspector of Record (IOR) or special inspector
  • Minimum ICC master special Inspector certification
  • Experience in both public and private sector projects
  • Certification such as Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), International Code Council (ICC) or NAVFAC CQM or ICC Combination Inspector, HCAI Class A IOR, DSA Class 1 or 2 IOR certification
  • Solid understanding of three phase QC
  • Strong understanding of Built-In Quality
  • Proven knowledge of quality assurance methodologies, tools, and standards (e.g., ISO, HCAI, DSA, NAVFAC/USACE CQM)
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office and Quality Management software
  • Ability to learn new software quickly
  • Strong understanding of Jurisdictional process and compliance
  • Proven understanding of applicable codes, standards, and compliance requirements
  • Experience managing close out and commissioning of projects
  • Capable of analyzing data, identifying trends, and offering insights into Quality improvements
  • The ability to effectively lead, develop and mentor more junior staff while building and maintaining team morale
  • Working level communication skills
  • Ability to address an audience of various sizes and effectively communicate his/her message and ideas
  • Ability to write clear and concise thoughts in a professional manner
  • Working level knowledge of decision quality and use of sound judgement
  • Working level customer focus and the ability to work cohesively with others
  • Possesses awareness, ability, and humility to escalate issues or conflicts with minimal Project Manager involvement
  • Ability to build strong business relationships and tap into personal networks as needed
  • Strong initiative and accountability for work deliverables
  • Exhibits commitment to upholding ethical standards and ensuring transparency in quality processes
  • Ability to identify and address safety issues
  • Physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction
  • Close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, sit, talk, hear, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Regular on-site work at the construction work site
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock
  • Moderate to very loud noise environments

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in quality management, engineering, or a related field or equivalent preferred
  • Certification such as Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), International Code Council (ICC) or NAVFAC CQM or ICC Combination Inspector, HCAI Class A IOR, DSA Class 1 or 2 IOR certification is preferred
