Job Summary
Public Defender role that provides competent legal representation to criminal defendants; responsible for investigating cases, interviewing witnesses, preparing for pre-trial hearings and trials, counseling clients, drafting and filing motions and briefs, visiting detained clients, representing clients at hearings and trials, preparing post-trial motions and appeals, conducting legal research, negotiating plea bargains, and coordinating with internal departments and external agencies. Requires a Juris Doctorate and Pennsylvania Bar admission; involves travel and working in a non-union environment; strong writing, research, communication, and confidentiality skills are essential.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctorate degree
- Licensed and admitted to Pennsylvania Bar
- Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License and willingness to travel
- English language proficiency
- experience or internship in public defense preferred
