Assistant Props Manager, Texas Performing Arts

The Assistant Props Manager collaborates with the Props Manager to oversee the Craft Studio, Prop Stock, and Sewing Studio within the Fabrication Studios team, serving as Prop Manager for productions and projects, and overseeing training and development of students and staff as prop artisans and managers. Responsibilities include planning, costing, purchasing, fabricating, modifying and repairing props and set dressing; attending production meetings and rehearsals; coordinating with stage managers, directors, crew, and performers for safe prop use; supervising fabrication tasks; maintaining equipment; mentoring students and staff; outlining course residencies, guest lectures, workshops, and tours; and performing other duties as assigned. Requirements include at least five years of professional Prop Manager or equivalent experience in theatre/opera/film, hands-on fabrication tool usage with safety emphasis, demonstrated supervision experience, and a valid driver’s license. Preferred qualifications include academic setting experience, knowledge of digital fabrication tools (3D printers, laser cutters, vinyl cutters), furniture construction/repair experience, familiarity with Trello/Slack, and vehicle operation experience. Salary around $53,000+ with a focus on duties, safety, mentorship, and production support. Location is UT Main Campus in Austin, TX; evening/weekend/holiday work with extended hours during performances; on-site prop fabrication and shop environment; eligible for UT Austin benefits and compliance with university employment policies.
