Job Summary
Mentor staff and students while serving as a trusted thought partner to the Program Director for developing after-school programming for grades K–5. Lead dynamic activities that foster youth leadership, teamwork, and growth within a safe, inclusive environment. Cultivate relationships with parents, schools, and the community to strengthen program impact. Utilize data management systems like DYCD Connect, EzReports, and Salesforce to streamline operations. Participate in staff meetings and training sessions to model professional development. Provide flexible support for additional programmatic and administrative tasks as needed. Report directly to the Program Director at Commonpoint, a NYC community center serving over 100,000 members across 80 sites.
Required Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Experience working with youth in an educational setting, such as schools, after-school programs, or camps
- A solid understanding of youth development, educational methods, lesson planning, and best practices in engaging and supporting children
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Ability to maintain a safe and supportive environment for children
- Demonstrated adaptability and problem-solving abilities in a dynamic, fast-paced setting
- Experience in a leadership role with youth, such as mentoring or directing programs
- Familiarity with or proficiency in data management systems such as DYCD Connect, EzReports, or Salesforce
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn various educational strategies and tools that support diverse learners
- Standing: Staff will be on their feet for extended periods (1-4 hours)
- Walking and Movement: Frequent movement around the program space
- Lifting: Staff may need to lift materials (up to 20 pounds)
- Lifting: Occasionally, lifting heavier items (up to 50 pounds) may be necessary
