Job Summary
Three-year, full-time contractually limited term appointment (CLTA) at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, in German Language Pedagogy. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate German language courses at all levels, coordinating and mentoring teaching assistants and course instructors, stewardship of course materials and curriculum delivery, and some departmental administration as coordinator of the German language sequence. The successful candidate must hold a PhD in German Studies by the time of appointment (or shortly thereafter) and have native or near-native German proficiency, with demonstrated excellence in teaching and innovative second-language pedagogy, including development of online materials/lectures and experience coordinating multi-section language courses.
Required Qualifications
- PhD degree in German Studies by time of appointment (or shortly thereafter)
- native or near-native level of German proficiency
- teaching expertise at undergraduate level including language course preparation and delivery
- experience coordinating multi-section language courses (beginners to intermediate)
- demonstrated commitment to innovative pedagogical methods and teaching-related scholarly activities
- ability to teach undergraduate German language courses at all levels and manage/coordinate teaching assistants and course instructors
- responsibility for departmental administration and coordination of the German language sequence
- strong interpersonal and collaborative skills for working with colleagues and program teams
- ability to develop online teaching materials and lectures
- evidence of teaching excellence through teaching dossier, awards/recognition, and references
