Assistant Professor of Interior Architecture – Tenure Track

Job Summary

Teach undergraduate interior architecture studios, design foundation studios, and supporting lecture courses covering lighting, cultural influences, design theory, and design history. Develop and maintain scholarship acceptable to university standards while contributing to service within the Unit, School, College, and University. This tenure-track position is a full-time, salaried, exempt, 9-month academic year role with a starting salary of $55,000-$58,000. The Interior Architecture program, housed in the College of Fine Arts and Communication, is CIDA and NASAD accredited and focuses on graduating competent professionals capable of designing quality interior environments for residential and commercial settings.

Required Qualifications

  • Terminal degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or a design-related discipline (Ph.D., M.F.A., M. Arch., or equivalent)
  • Minimum of one studio-based degree in Interior Design/Interior Architecture
  • NCIDQ certification at the time of hire or ability to achieve full certification within a reasonable timeframe of hire
  • Eligibility to work on or before the start date listed
  • Eligibility to work in the United States at time of hire
  • Strong visual, written, and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated expertise with industry standard software

Desired Qualifications

  • Current NCIDQ certification
  • Passed one or more parts of the NCIDQ examination process
  • Additional industry qualifications and memberships (such as LEED AP, WELL AP, ASID, AIA, IIDA, IES, NKBA)
  • Specialization in studio education, professional practice, design history and theory, design thinking and visualization (digital and manual), experience design, fabrication and furniture design, codes and standards, evidence-based design, universal design, design psychology, ergonomics, lighting design, and human factors
  • Evidence of or potential for program or department administration
  • Experience with CIDA and NASAD accreditation reviews
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Revit
  • Proficiency in Autodesk AutoCAD/AutoCAD Architecture
  • Proficiency in SketchUp
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite
