Job Summary
Provide inpatient palliative care consultations, direct care for admitted inpatient hospice patients, and outpatient follow-up at Emory University Hospital Midtown. Serve as attending physician and medical director for inpatient hospice cases, facilitating clarification of patient and family goals of care. Establish written plans of care through interdisciplinary team meetings and coordinate supportive care services. Conduct weekly case reviews, supervise advanced practice providers, fellows, residents, and students, and perform full documentation for professional billing. Participate in on-call coverage for hospice and palliative care patients and devote 1% to 25% of effort to scholarly activities and teaching. Adhere to confidentiality practices and assist in developing standard operating procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Board certified or eligible in Hospice and Palliative Medicine
- ≥80% inpatient assignment
- up to 20% outpatient practice
- 184 clinical days per year total
- target of 160 weekdays and 24 weekend days per year
- call responsibilities evenly distributed among the practice group
- hold hospital privileges at all Emory Healthcare sites
- devote between [1% and 25%] of your total professional effort to scholarly activities
- devote between [1% and 25%] of your total professional effort to teaching
- devote [more than 75%] of your total professional effort to professional service
- Weekly participation in interdisciplinary team meetings
- Participation in on-call coverage for hospice and palliative care patients
- Provide supervision for advanced practice providers in Hospice and Palliative Medicine
- Educational supervision for fellows, residents, and medical students
- Teach, supervise, and evaluate students and house staff on hospice and palliative care clinical rotations
- Full and appropriate documentation of patient care services to support professional billing for these services
- Adhere to the practice of confidentiality regarding patients, families, staff, and the organization
